Toe Walking
Gentle, playful therapy identifies the cause of toe walking and supports natural heel-to-toe movement.
What It Is
When a child walks on their toes for more than a few months after first learning to walk—or walks on their toes more than 50% of the time—it may indicate tight or weak muscles, sensory preferences, or a motor pattern that needs gentle retraining.
How Therapy Helps
Early physical therapy is beneficial for identifying the cause and supporting healthy gait development. At Motor Skills Matter, we begin with a thorough differential diagnosis to determine whether toe walking stems from muscle tightness, sensory processing, balance, or coordination. Treatment may include stretching, strengthening, and sensory-motor play to promote heel-to-toe walking.
Our Approach at Motor Skills Matter
Every step toward balanced walking brings more stability, comfort, and confidence. We help families understand why toe walking happens—and empower children to move forward, one grounded step at a time.
