Torticollis / Plagiocephaly
Some babies develop tight neck muscles or flat spots on the head, known as torticollis and plagiocephaly. With early, gentle physical therapy—recommended by clinical guidelines—most babies make fast and lasting progress.
If your baby’s head often tilts to one side, prefers looking in one direction, or is developing a flat spot, it may be a sign of torticollis (tight neck muscles) or plagiocephaly (head shape changes). The good news is that with early physical therapy, most babies improve quickly. Treatment is gentle and play-based—using stretches, positioning, and movement strategies to help your baby grow stronger and more balanced. According to the American Physical Therapy Association’s Clinical Practice Guidelines, starting therapy as soon as possible—ideally in the first few months—leads to the fastest recovery and helps prevent long-term concerns. Early support not only corrects head shape and movement but also builds the foundation for your baby’s motor milestones.
